About the event
Psychedelic substances are becoming increasingly more accepted in society as viable tools for psychological healing and spiritual experiences. Many users are not taking psychedelics in the safety and comfort of a clinical or ceremonial setting, and because of this, the possibility of risk is increased.
Join West Rock Wellness, Elm City Psychedelic Society and It’s Okay for a 3-hour workshop about Psychedelic Harm Reduction, on Tuesday, December 19th from 6 pm to 9 pm at West Rock Wellness. It’s Okay will provide a basic overview of psychedelics, harm reduction, the risks associated with psychedelics, safe practices, and information on how to support someone having a challenging psychedelic experience.
The first half of the workshop will be a lecture covering the core principles of harm reduction, care techniques, and other pertinent information, while the second half will focus on experiential exercises and skill building to integrate intellectual concepts and practice being a supportive person.
The workshop will be facilitated by Adam Rubin (he/him). He has devoted his life to supporting others experiencing extreme states of consciousness and creating safety systems at events where people might choose to ingest psychedelic substances. He has worked 50+ events around the world since 2015 with many different organizations including the Zendo Project, White Bird Rock Med, RGX Medical, Take 3 Presents, as well as manages his own teams. He has provided training to peer support volunteers, local psychedelic communities, and event medical teams to cultivate a deeper understanding of psychedelic crises and teach effective strategies for supporting the people experiencing them. Adam also helped co-found Fireside Project, a psychedelic peer support phone line. Aside from his psychedelic work, he has 5 years of experience working as a crisis counselor at a social service organization.
