About the Event
Level 1 Training in Trauma-Centered Psychotherapy (TCP) - Deepening Trauma Inquiry
Deepening Trauma Inquiry: From Foundational Skills to Clinical Practice
May 2027 – April 2028 | Hybrid Professional Training
Go Beyond the Foundations of Trauma Work
How do we help clients engage with traumatic experiences when fear, shame, and avoidance make those experiences difficult to approach?
Developed by David Read Johnson, PhD, and Hadar Lubin, MD, Trauma-Centered Psychotherapy (TCP) offers a direct, relational, and experiential approach to trauma treatment.
This year-long Level 1 training moves beyond introductory knowledge into the practice of TCP, helping clinicians develop greater confidence, skill, and emotional presence in trauma inquiry.
Through immersive training weekends, clinical demonstrations, experiential exercises, and ongoing small-group learning, participants will deepen their capacity to work with trauma while attending to their own responses within the therapeutic relationship.
What You'll Learn
Foundations of TCP
Deepen your understanding of the foundational axioms of fear, shame, and avoidance, and the principles of immediacy, engagement, and emotionality.
Core Trauma Inquiry Techniques
Develop practical skills in four foundational TCP techniques:
Getting the Details
Decoding Current Behaviors
Introducing Discrepancy
Disclosing the Perpetrator
Beyond the Basics
Explore additional inquiry tools, including Zooming In, Looking Around, Slowing Down, Repeating, Backing Up, and Pausing.
The Therapist's Role
Examine countertransference, embodied responses, therapist fear and avoidance, and the importance of maintaining emotional engagement during trauma work.
Clinical Integration
Apply TCP concepts through experiential practice, case discussion, role-play, and ongoing feedback.
